Maristella Matera

HCI | Model-driven Web Engineering, Web usability and accessibility

Maristella Matera holds a PhD in Computer Science and Automation Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2000. At the beginning of her academic career, she had been awarded several fellowships for supporting her research work at Italian and foreign institutions. In 2002 she achieved a position as an assistant professor at DEIB, then in 2010 as an associate professor at the same department.

Maristella’s research focuses on aspects positioned at the intersection between Web Engineering and Human-Computer Interaction, with emphasis on design methods and tools for low-code/no-code platforms. Her current research concentrates on inclusive design, conversational AI, interactive technologies for data integration and exploration, End-User Development of IoT systems

She is the author of about 300 papers and four books on previous topics. She regularly organizes international events in the field of Web Engineering and HCI.  In the MSc in Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, she teaches courses on Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Inclusive Digital Technologies.

Human-centered AI | HCI | Information Search and Retrieval

I am a senior assistant professor (RTDb) at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. I specialize in human-computer interaction, information retrieval, and creativity. My current research interests include the design of human-centered AI systems to empower humans in a variety of ubiquitous, social, and collaborative settings.

Before joining the Politecnico di Milano, I have been affiliated with the University of Palermo, Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT, University of Helsinki, and Aalto University. I have also collaborated with the Human-Computer Interaction Institute of Carnegie Mellon University as a visiting research scholar. I am an ACM Senior Member.
I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Palermo.

Diego Morra

Inclusive design | HCI | Co-design methods | electronics making | smart spaces

Diego’s research focuses on the accessibility and inclusivity of smart technologies with a focus on private and urban spaces. Driven by his expertise in loT and UX design, he employs a human-computer interaction perspective and an inclusive design methodology to investigate the potential of adopting co-design and making toolkits to design more inclusive spaces for and with people with disabilities. His work is carried out in close collaboration with field experts, caregivers, and psychologists and with university and research institutes like Trento University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Results from his research have been published in top-ranked national and international HCI conferences and journals.
